Another Pittsburgh-area soccer player has ascended into the national spotlight.

Defender Aideen O’Donoghue, a junior at Canon McMillan and a Rutgers recruit and member of the Riverhounds Development Academy, has been selected to the U.S. Soccer Under-17 women’s national team roster for its upcoming training camp in Carson, California from April 16-23.

O’Donoghue is the third RDA player to be invited into a national team camp in recent years.

“To wear a U.S. shirt is one of the highest honors in the game and we are extremely proud to have Aideen represent her family, community and our club in pursuit of this dream,” said Riverhounds youth development director Jason Kutney.

Other local products who play for RDA who were invited to previous USWNT U-17 camps include:  Mikayla Mance, Yough HS senior who will be headed for Virginia Tech in the fall, and Ciara Terabasso, West Allegheny junior and another Rutgers commit, took part in a U.S. Soccer camp in Dallas in 2013.

O’Donoghue is one of 26 players called up by U.S. U-17 head coach B.J. Snow.

Eighteen members of the training pool represented the United States in last month’s CONCACAF Women’s U-17 Championship that saw the Americans defeat Mexico in the final.
