Pittsburgh Riverhounds’ Romeo Parkes is finally getting some notice.
The Jamaican forward/midfielder was named to the USL’s Team of the Week after adding two more goals to his team leading total of four, after two road games in four days last week.
In the early part of the season, which the Riverhounds are still looking for their first win, Parkes has been the team’s most dangerous scoring threat. Much of his damage has come from his ability to use his size (6’3″), strength and speed, and skill to beat defenders near the box.
Parkes extended his goal scoring streak to four goals during the team’s road trip last week against Louisville City FC on Wednesday, and then at Charleston Battery on Saturday evening.
The Saint Mary, Jamaica native did not start his first match of the season against the Rochester Rhinos, but since, has scored in each game he’s started. Parkes is currently tied for third overall in the USL in goals, and has accounted for all but two of the Hounds tallies on the season.
Previously a member of A.D. Isidro Metapán in El Salvador, he led his team to a League title, scoring 10 goals.
Parkes and the Riverhounds (0-2-3) will look to secure their first win of the season this Saturday night, as they host a playoff rematch with the New York Red Bulls II (3-1-2) at 7 p.m at Highmark Stadium.
We’ll have a full game preview — later in the week.
