Rochester Continues Domination of Riverhounds With 3-0 Win To Complete Season Sweep

The Rochester Rhinos continued its domination of the Pittsburgh Riverhounds with a dominating 2-0 win on Saturday at Sahlen’s Stadium to complete a three-game series sweep for the 2016 season.

The Hounds didn’t do a very good job of accounting for Soso Tergou, who scored twice in the first half on balls served to the far side of the box.

Making matters worse, the Hounds goalkeeper Zach Steffen made a poor decision after going up to grab a ball bythe far post on a high cross into the box.

Steffen tried to toss the ball toward the left plank in an effort to get the Hounds going forward on a counter attack.  Unfortunately Rochester’s Sean Rielly was right there to step in to intercept the rolling ball. Rielly alertly lined up and drove a dandy of a shot past Steffen to give the Rhinos a commanding 3-0 lead that would hold up.

The Hounds futility in Rochester continues. In 26 games all-time, Pittsburgh has only won once (3-2 win in June 2014).

The Riverhounds (4-15-4, 16 points) return to action with a mid-week tilt at home against Wilmington on Wednesday. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. at Highmark Stadium.
