#Pitt Women Shut Out, Drop to 0-2-1. #PghSoccer

from Pitt Athletics reports
PITTSBURGH – Despite a late push from the Pitt offense, the Colorado College women’s soccer team outlasted Pitt 1-0 at Ambrose Urbanic Field Thursday night.

The Panthers tallied scoring chances in the second half, but were unable to connect as they fell to 0-2-1 on the season.

“I’m pretty disappointed in our team because we didn’t follow the game plan and it took us 45 minutes to actually start playing,” said head coach Greg Miller. “We didn’t convert on the chances we created. Hats off to Colorado College. They had a game plan, they followed it, they’re well coached and we knew that coming in and tried to convey that to our players. There was obviously a disconnect between what we talked about, how we trained and how we executed.”

The lone goal of the game came in the 28th minute when Clara Richter grabbed a rebound off of a shot from Chanisse Hendrix and sent the ball past the fingertips of Taylor Francis.

The Panthers offense came alive in the second half, coming out with a few quick opportunities off the feet of Hanna Hannesdottir and Sarah Krause. In the 87th minute, Colorado College goalkeeper Molly HIniker was forced to make a pair of saves on Hannesdottir, securing the win for the Tigers.

In a gritty contest, three yellow cards were awarded as Cheyenne Hudson and Emily Pietrangelo were awarded the penalty for Pitt and Madeline Stesney for Colorado College.

“We certainly proved that we’re capable of creating scoring chances, having some possession and breaking teams down and having some good opportunities” Miller added. “At the end of the day, it’s too little too late and you’ve got to convert. You just have to be better.”

Pitt will return to action on Sunday, closing out a three-game homestand with Xavier. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. as Pitt celebrates Jr. Panther Day at Ambrose Urbanic Field.
