IRVINE, Calif. – The University of Pittsburgh women’s soccer team fell to UC Irvine by a score of 3-0 to conclude its California roadtrip Sunday evening at Anteater Stadium in Irvine, Calif.
Scoring opportunities were limited early in the first half, as UC Irvine was able to strike first in the 22nd minute. Following a free kick, a scramble on the left of the net would ensue and Kiana Palacious was able to put the ball behind goalkeeper Taylor Francis to give the Anteaters a 1-0 lead.
The Panther offense was able to muster just one shot in the first half, with nothing registered on goal as they trailed 1-0 at the break.
In the 49th minute, the Anteaters would extend their lead to 2-0 before posting the final goal of the game in the 86th minute to secure a 3-0 victory.
With the loss, Pitt falls to 1-4-1 on the season. Pitt will travel to Lawrence, Kan., for their final non-conference road battle of the season, taking on Kansas at 8 p.m. on Sept. 9. They’ll return to Ambrose Urbanic field to close out non-conference play on Sept. 11, hosting Kent State at 6 p.m. ACC action will follow on Sept. 19 as Pitt welcomes Louisville.
