After trailing for most of the match, the Duquesne Dukes pulled off quite a come-from-behind win on the Bluff on Friday night.

The Dukes scored a pair of goals in the final five minutes – the last of which came from Fredrik Borenstein with 1:18 left – to pull out a dramatic 2-1 win over Wofford in the opening round of the Duquesne Invitational.

The win evened the Dukes’ record at 2-2, while Wofford dropped to 3-2.

DU trailed by one when Cody West’s throw in was headed by Bryan Fegley whose back was toward the goal. The ball deflected to Wofford’s Tanner DeFreitas who got a foot on the ball and knocked into the far left corner for an own goal, tying the game in the 85th minute.

The Dukes then won a ball near midfield with Diego Vieira advancing it along the right side to Fegley who sent a cross in front of the Terriers’ net. Wofford keeper Garrett Closs tried to corral the ball, but it came loose and Borenstein deposited it in the net for his second goal of the season.

The first half ended in a 0-0 tie with DU’s best chance coming in the 33rd minute when Jallah Acqui’s header was stopped by Closs. Duquesne’s Evan Kozlowski’s save in the 48th minute kept Wofford off the board early in the second half. The Terriers would find their lone goal in the 57th minute, on a header by Kyle Nelson off a set piece. Connor Donohue was credited with the assist off of Nelson’s header. Duquesne outshot Wofford 16-6, including a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal. DU finished with nine corners to three for the Terriers.

“It wasn’t the prettiest game, but it was a game that we needed to get us back on track. We’re a hard-working team, we competed for 90 minutes, and I think we proved that tonight. At the end of the game we walk out with our heads held high that we battled and gave everything that we had for the entirety of the game. Now, we have to enjoy this one tonight and wake up tomorrow morning and get ready for a tough game on Sunday.”
