Panthers Celebrate Canadian Players, Alumni Day

PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh women’s soccer team will play host to No. 2 Florida State on Saturday, Oct. 1 in a battle between ACC combatants.

Kick off at Ambrose Urbanic Field is set for 2 p.m. as the Panthers are in pursuit of their first conference victory of the season against the reigning ACC Champion.

The game has been deemed Poutine Night, where the Canadian specialty will be served in tribute to the four members of the Panthers who hail from Canada. Pitt’s Canadian contributors consist of junior midfielder Emma Pozzulo, junior forward Taylor Pryce, senior defender Emily Pietrangelo and junior midfielder Ashley Moreira, all of whom came to Pitt by way of the province of Ontario.

  • Live stats will be available here
  • The game can also be seen live on the ACC Network Extra via WatchESPN or the WatchESPN app

  • The Panthers (1-9-1, 0-3-0 ACC) return home after a two-game conference road swing, where the powerhouse No. 2 Seminoles await
  • Pitt enters the game after suffering a 4-0 loss in South Bend, Ind. against No. 24 Notre Dame
  • The Panthers are in the midst of a tough stretch having lost seven straight games, unable to score a goal in their last 318:24 of play

  • The Seminoles (8-1-1, 2-0-1 ACC) began the season ranked No. 1 in the country
  • Florida State tied then second-ranked Virginia at home on Sunday in a game that was called after the first overtime period due to its second lighting delay
  • While the draw extended the Seminoles unbeaten streak at home to 30 matches, it did end their consecutive scoreless streak at 528:18, the fifth longest streak in school history
  • The Seminoles are 14-3-3 in their last 20 road games, dating back to 2014
  • It’s their first road game since they fell to South Alabama, 1-0 on Sept. 5, their lone loss this season
  • Their stingy defense, one that has allowed 0.2 goals per game, is tops among the ACC and second in the nation
  • A duo of freshman forwards sit atop Florida State’s team leaders in points as Kristen McFarland has five goals, one assist and 11 points while Deyna Castellanos has five goals and 10 points
  • Redshirt junior goalkeeper Cassie Miller has started all 10 games for the Seminoles, possessing a 0.20 goals against average and .909 save percentage and six shutouts in 885:48 minutes of play

  • This will be the fourth all-time meeting between the two squads in a series that began in 2013 when the Panthers joined the ACC
  • Pitt has yet to win a meeting between the schools, as the Seminoles hold a 3-0 advantage and have outscored the Panthers 13-0
  • Pitt rode an eight-game win streak into its matchup with Florida State last season, before falling on the road 6-0

  • The slate doesn’t get any easier for the Panthers, as a road test with No. 3 Virginia looms next week
  • The Cavaliers (8-2-1, 1-1-1 ACC) will host Pitt on Thursday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. in Charlottesville, Va.
  • Pitt will then return home for a 1 p.m. Sunday matinee against Miami (7-4-0, 1-1-0 ACC) on Oct. 9, with the game serving as Senior Day
