Duquesne accomplished something no Dukes team had done since 2003 – leave Dayton with a point – in a 1-1 draw with the Flyers at UD’s Baujan Field.

DU’s Ryan Landry (Shaler), who was coming off a three-point week, took a corner from Ian Larson near the PK spot and put it in the left corner to give the Duke’s their first, first half lead of the season in the 6th minute.

DU (8-3-5, 3-1-3 A-10) played with the lead until Kennedy Nwabia tied it on a header after taking a deep pass from Rok Taneski off a set piece in the 78th minute. The two teams battled through two overtime frames to the 1-1 result. Nwabia sent a header over the crossbar from the six with seven minutes left in the second extra period. Three minutes later, Duquesne had the ball deep in the Dayton box for an extended period, but could not get off a solid shot in the scrum.

Tonight was an extremely hard-fought match between two teams vying for a spot in the A-10 Tournament. We knew Dayton would come out with a lot of energy on Senior Night and we’d have to match it and then one-up them,” said Chase Brooks, Duquesne Head Coach.

“At the end of the day, it was a great game fought between two quality teams. We’ll see what the other conference results do for us, but our focus now is on returning home and getting ready for our final regular-season game.”

Evan Kozlowski finished with six saves for the Dukes, who tied the school record with their fifth draw of the season while ending a seven-match losing streak to the Flyers. Federico Barios stopped three shots for the Flyers.

Dayton outshot Duquesne 20-11, including 7-4 on goal. Duquesne had a 5-4 advantage in corners.
