@Pitt_MSOC End Season With 4-0 Loss to Syracuse in #ACC 1st Rd


The Pitt men’s soccer team fell 4-0 Wednesday night to No. 7 Syracuse at the SU Soccer Stadium in the first round of the 2016 ACC Tournament.


With the loss, the Panthers finish the season 2-13-3 overall and 0-6-2 in conference play, while the Orange advance to the quarterfinals with an overall record of 11-3-3 and 3-2-3 against ACC opponents.


Syracuse struck early on in the 11th minute as they capitalized on a hard touch by redshirt freshman Jacob Rooth in goal. Rooth received a pass back from his teammate and Chris Nanco was able to get a foot on the ball and push it into the net. The Orange tacked on one other goal in the 21st minute off the foot of Nanco again.


The second half also featured two goals by the Orange, both of which were scored in traffic in the box. The first came in the 64th minute off the foot of Jonathan Hagman. He collected a loose ball on the left side and buried into the back corner. Hagman struck again in the 71st minute as he put in a rebounded shot off the crossbar.


Pitt attempted eight shots on the night and earned four corners. Rooth made five saves through the 90 minutes.


Syracuse moves on to the quarterfinals and will face Clemson Sunday, Nov. 6.
