Duquesne head women’s soccer coach Al Alvine announced that Brian Shrum has been promoted to associate head coach.
Shrum, who joined the Duquesne staff in February 2012, helped guide Duquesne to its first ever NCAA Tournament appearance, Atlantic 10 Championship and a school-record 12-win season in 2015.
“I am excited and proud to announce the promotion of Brian Shrum to associate head coach,” said Alvine. “Brian has been with me since the start of my tenure here at Duquesne and has been an integral component in the evolution and growth of our program. His dedication, work-ethic and passion for Duquesne University and our women’s soccer program has been inspiring to our student – athletes and staff alike.”
Shrum has developed 10 A-10 All-Conference players – including Linnea Faccenda – the first NSCAA All-Region player under coach Alvine’s tenure.
“Brian and I have a shared vision of excellence for Duquesne Women’s Soccer – on the soccer field, in the classroom and in the community. That shared vision will continue to drive our program forward and provide us with the best possible opportunity for future success,” added Alvine.
“I would like to thank Al Alvine, head women’s soccer coach, and the Duquesne University athletic administration for their continued support and belief in me to assist in the continued path of excellence of the Duquesne University women’s soccer program. The women’s soccer team has taken extraordinary steps and I’m delighted to be able to continue to further our efforts of leading this program onto a regional and national stage,” said Shrum.
“I also want to thank the amazing student-athletes, past and present, for their hard work and determination on and off the field. It’s these young student-athletes that make my role within the women’s soccer team the most enjoyable.”
The Dukes open the 2017 season on Aug. 20th against Pitt at Rooney Field.
