Redshirt junior, Pryce and senior Moreira will serve as first-year captains for the Panthers, while senior Pozzulo will begin her third season as a Pitt captain.

“It is exciting to announce Emma, Ashley, and Taylor as our three captains for the 2017 season,” Miller said. “They have all taken various paths to get where they are and yet are all equally prepared to lead our team.  Emma, who has the most experience having been one of our captains for the last two years, is the most seasoned, but Taylor and Ashley themselves bring unique qualities to the leadership team.  They all understand the responsibilities that lie within the demands of the captain role; leading, managing, and motivating carry well beyond the dimensions of the soccer field.”

A forward, Pryce appeared in two games for the Panthers last season before suffering a season-ending injury. She logged 43 minutes against Michigan in Pitt’s season opener, registering two shots, one on goal, in a 2-2 tie with the Wolverines.

Midfielder Moreira did not suit up for the Panthers during 2016. The Maple, Ontario native took a redshirt season to be able to compete as a member of the U20 Canadian National Team at the FIFA Under 20 Women’s World Cup in Papa New Guinea.

Pozzulo, also part of the Panthers’ midfield, saw action in 15 games, starting once against Kansas. On the season, she recorded two shots, earning a season-high 54 minutes against Notre Dame on Sept. 25, where she recorded one shot attempt.
The Panthers will kick off the season on Thursday, Aug. 8 as they host Youngstown State in an exhibition at Ambrose Urbanic Field. They’ll close out exhibition action on Aug. 12 at Ohio State, before opening the regular season at home against Hofstra on Aug. 18 at 7 p.m.
