The Riverhounds won for the third straight match in a fast-paced thriller, beating Bethlehem Steel FC 3-2 at Highmark Stadium on Saturday night.
It was a match that had a little bit of everything including goals by Corey Hertzog, Jamal Jack and Kevin Kerr, who tallied the final go-ahead goal in the 75th minute.
While the Hounds, who improved to an 8-8-9 record, good for 33 points, raced out to an early 2-0 edge, they would have to battle back against a persistent Steel FC side to finish August unbeaten (3-0-1) and jump into a tie in the USL’s Eastern Conference standings with their cross-state foes.
It was the Hounds captain, Kerr, who was the difference maker in an exciting game filled with a lot of momentum swings, as he provided a second-effort, game-winning tally and assisted on both of the first half goals.
“There’s that belief. Even when they came back, and it was 2-2. The boys were flying forward. They believed that we could win,” Kerr said. “We kept going and going, and staying in the game and getting stronger in the end. Hats off to the boys, it was a massive win.”
