The Duquesne women’s team continued its strong run of play, with a three-goal second half en route to a 3-2 win over George Mason at Rooney Field on Thursday night.
After a scoreless first half, the Dukes opened up the scoring on a Casey Aunkst on a penalty kick in the 59th minute, then moments later, junior Katie O’Connor would tie the school record with her 21st career goal, followed by former Beadling and Hickory High School standout Lauren Bell‘s tally in the 76th minute
George Mason rallied for a pair of goals in the final ten minutes from Niomi Serrano and Nia Elbeck, but the Dukes held on to improve its overall record to 8-3-2 overall and , 4-1 in conference play.
With the win, the Duquesne women’s soccer class of 2017 – Veronique Dagenais, Malea Fabean, Linnea Faccenda, Amber Fichter, Emilie Larsen, Delaney Reiff and Jorden Thornton – are now the winningest in program history.
The Dukes return to action on Sunday, traveling to North Carolina to take on Davidson. Kickoff is at 2 p.m.
