Soccer non-profit hosting Entrepreneurship and Employment Expo on Saturday evening
Pittsburgh Soccer in the Community has been around for some time — but on Saturday night — they’ll be hosting its first ever Entrepreneurship and Employment Expo at The Neighborhood Academy on Saturday February 24th from 8:30pm to 10:30pm.
This career/job/resource fair, with up to 100 attendees expected, mostly from the immigrant and refugee community, is the culmination of a 6-week Sport-Based Leadership Series in collaboration with the Welcoming Pittsburgh initiative of the Mayor’s Office of the City of Pittsburgh, and supported by several other community partners. The event will feature a free Indian BBQ tasting courtesy of Choolaah Indian BBQ.
The Expo will be running in the gym while the soccer games take place on the turf. Guests are invited to visit with representatives from employment and entrepreneurial resources, such as the City of Pittsburgh Human Resource Department, City of Pittsburgh Public Safety, Ascender, Idea Foundry, and ARYSE.
This new initiative is part of the second year of Pittsburgh Soccer in the Community’s Saturday night community soccer league, which launched in December 2016. The league’s objectives are to create a safe space for immigrants and refugees to play the game the love and make deeper connections within the City of Pittsburgh. Currently, the league boasts eight teams with 150+ players, men and women from 23 different countries registered. Nearly 100 who participate on any given Saturday night.
